Since our beginning in 2003, we have met in staff homes in the Faubourg Marigny neighborhood of New Orleans. Our home base is on Frenchmen Street. Here we have equipment, supplies, and space for small group learning. Home base is a residence, a center, and a point of departure.
Space is important for the physical grounding it provides a community. We currently we have a well-equipped studio for art and craft production, a woodworking shop, cozy attic spaces, an ever-growing library, garden, and a nice kitchen.
No doubt, the space itself and the way we use it will change over time. As our community grows, as new interests emerge, our meeting space will expand with it. Developing, adapting, creating the space is an important part of this community of learning.
We are fortunate to have the opportunity to shape our space as the life without school community forms and grows.
